NY Aquarium
The Only Aquarium in NYC Right in Coney Island
Animal lovers far and wide are drawn to the New York Aquarium in Coney Island for an up-close look at the many wonders of marine sea life. Operating on the mission of inspiring visitors to join in protecting local waters and saving wildlife and wild places around the globe, the aquarium annually ranks as one of the best things to do in Brooklyn for families. Get an underwater view of the abundant sea life on Glover’s Reef, hang outdoors with harbor seals, sea otters and penguins at the Sea Cliffs exhibit and be sure to catch the interactive sea lion show at the outdoor Aquatheater.
Located at the intersection of West 8th Street and Surf Avenue, the New York Aquarium is situated in close proximity to the Coney Island amusement parks and easily accessible by subway and car. During your visit, make sure to check out the award-winning Ocean Wonders: Sharks! Exhibit, where you can meet the fantastic sharks, rays, sea turtles, and more that live right off the Coney Island shore. Plus walk through a colorful coral reef as butterflyfish and zebra sharks swim above you. At the Spineless exhibit, you'll learn about the diversity of bizarre and beautiful invertebrates of our oceans, like the giant Pacific octopus, moon jellies, and Japanese spider crabs. And don't miss the NEWEST exhibit PlayQuarium - a playful, interactive space where younger visitors and their families can connect with the ocean through imaginative play. Be a shark, be a humpback whale, be a sardine in larger-than-life marine habitats that include a kelp forest and giant anemone. Kids can experience what it's like to be a marine animal or a scientist exploring the ocean. The exhibit is fully bilingual in English and Spanish.
